Community and sustainability has been at the heart of our business since we baked our very first loaf of bread over one hundred years ago.
Becoming a Certified B Corporation in 2019 means that we meet the highest social and environmental standards for people and the planet. It's how we’ve always done business, now we have the stamp to prove it.
Our mission is to nourish our customers, people and communities for generations to come.
As part of our dedication to transparency and striving to the best for our community and the planet, every year we publish an Impact Report.
We strive for the business to be a great place to work and for people to feel a part of an already large family. We make sure that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential, run an annual Wellbeing Month, trained a team of Mental Health First Aiders to support each other and encourage our staff to take a day to volunteer with their chosen charity.
Handmade bread for everyone is our mantra so we donate 250 loaves each week to our community. We want everyone to eat good bread that nourishes us, from partnering with several local charities such as Fare Share, The Matthew Tree Project and Family Food For Free we donate our bread to those who need it. We support the Ifakara Bakery in Tanzania with a ‘buy one give one’ initiative. For every one of our award-winning gluten free loaves sold we donate one to children in Tanzinia, so far we have donated over 100,000.
We removed all plastic packaging from our online orders by replacing plastic bread bags with compostable wax ones.
We removed all plastic milk bottles in our bakery and shops by installing a refillable milk station.
Our shops use compostable coffee cups, compostable wax bread bags and paper carrier bags.
We work hard to eliminate waste wherever possible. We use up leftover croissant dough to make our delicious cinnamon buns and when we have surplus bread, we work with local initiatives that fight hunger and tackle food waste by repurposing it to our community.
Our most important ingredient; flour, comes from Shipton Mill just 15 miles away from the bakery. We have worked with them for over four decades and mirror their values of sustainability, provenance and quality. All of our other ingredients come from the local Bristol area.
