Marcus Walters at Art Flea
This weekend, screen print artist and illustrator Marcus Walters will be taking part in Art Flea, an event held at the Brunel designed Goods Shed in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Marcus has taken the opportunity to have a spring clean at his studio and will be selling mountains of screen prints produced at his studio during the past few years. With prints starting from just £5, it is an opportunity to pick up an original screen print by the artist at an amazing price.
As Marcus explains, "My working process allows me to experiment straight onto paper and I tend to produce scores of prints, some end up as finished print, some are replicated as editions and others are sent to the archive. There comes a time when you run out of space so I have decided to part with many of these one-off prints this weekend. I couldn't help fiddling with some of the older prints in the archive and adding a few extra layers to some of them, so I guess you could call them new prints!"
Aside from these prints, Marcus will be selling some test prints from his editions. "When I make an edition of my work there are often prints that don't quite make the quality control. There might be slight ink marks or mis-registration, which sometimes can look quite nice. Overall it's been good looking over old work and re-evaluating it - it's also nice to get to a studio which is slightly more uncluttered."
Art Flea is on Saturday 18th May from 10am - 4pm at the Brunel designed Goods Shed in Stroud, GL5 3AP. Only 1.5 hrs on the train from London and next to the Stroud Farmers market, constantly voted one of Britain's best farmers markets in the UK. Art Flea is part of the Site Festival, Stroud's annual art festival.
